San Giovanni’s water
Here we are, tonight June 23 is the night of San Giovanni, a magical night. San Giovanni’s water is prepared which according to the various legends that are dispersed over time has healing and protective properties. It is an archaic tradition, which clearly is linked to the Christian feast of San Giovanni, patron saint of Florence (among the many cities) which is celebrated on June 24th.
For this year I have prepared enough, given the previous ones. In fact, last year I was not feeling very well and I did not prepare it … this year I tried to remedy it.
So very simple, you take a bowl and fill it with water. Then we add the wild flowers such as daisies, mallow flowers, rosemary, not to forget lavender and clover flowers. Jasmine and other wild flowers. In short, a beautiful bouquet of country flowers. We leave the bowl out all night (so it will take all the positive energy of the most magical night of the year) and in the morning we wash our face and hands with this water. A ritual that smells of good magic, good luck and luck.

For this I made a nice bowl of San Giovanni’s water. Now a little for fun and a little for good luck, in the end it is a question of simple gestures, traditions lost over time, which in the end I do not mind repeating at all. It will be because I am a country girl and because in the end these are small gestures that always help the spirit.
This tradition of water then mixes with another very important element, namely fire, always to emphasize the elements linked to purification. Now this thing about the fire I certainly can’t do it for several reasons, the first of all is that it is not that I want to start lighting a fire in the garden and dance around it like crazy (oh my God, knowing me I could also do it), but better avoid becoming arsonists or the police coming (helicopters would surely arrive).
Then there would also be to prepare the hypericum oil by collecting the flowers of the hypericum plant, called “San Giovanni’s wort”, on this very night. Put them in a jar and add oil, letting it rest for 40 days. In the end, a kind of officinal ointment is obtained. But it is a complicated thing and I don’t know where to go to find San Giovanni’s wort.
For next year I will find myself more prepared.
