My visit to Buckingham Palace

Now finding a title for this Sunday just ended makes no sense, just say “Buckingham Palace“.

Well, from mid-July until early September it is possible to visit Buckingham Palace, like other royal residences, as the king is on vacation.

We (husband and I) have visited both Buckingham Palace and the gardens.

First of all accessibility, for those like me who are deaf, the device that guides you inside the building has subtitles, unfortunately only in English. But great I would say.

There is no word to describe what it is like inside. I expected the magnificence of the rooms, but being inside is very different, you just feel how beautiful it is. Starting from the great Hall, the carriage used for the coronation awaits us. Then inside the red draperies, the gilded stuccos. The red and white staircase to get to the official photo room (the one you always see with the red background in the official photos). Then the painting gallery, then there’s the Green Room, where the color is green). The reception rooms with such glittering chandeliers, the windows towards the garden. The “secret passage” behind a mirror to access private apartments.

But the thing that struck me the most are the works of art. Canova’s sculptures, Canaletto’s paintings, and then Vermer and Van Dyk, and you are struck by all those paintings and I think we have only seen a small part of them.

Then there is a room dedicated to the Coronation, with the clothes worn and the jewels. And here it is not that you can say anything.

After the visit, then a break with you over scones, just to stay on topic.

Short break and visit to the garden. Apart from the fact that it’s a public park for how big it is, and there’s also a tennis court, well sheltered near the lake. There is the rose garden, the tea room among the trees, and the little temple where the queen used to drink gin, which she also produces on her own.

I must say a wonderful afternoon, and luckily it didn’t even rain.

Ah, only drawback, you can’t take pictures inside. Otherwise I would have made a book.
