Be at home.
I returned to Italy for a few days. I’m back home again. The first important and meaningful thing is the climate. There’s no comparison or comparison that matters elsewhere.
The sun, the warmth… and I wore a short-sleeved shirt. White as a corpse. But not that ethereal and fascinating kind of white in some ways. No no, it’s the kind of white that makes an impression, and I’m talking about a negative impression.
Having said that, let’s talk about food. So goodbye to the diet. Well, my diet and my strict regimen (to reactivate the metabolism that has been lost who knows where) were easily overridden by a plate of “pici cacio e pepe,” a good glass of prosecco, and appetizers with friends.
And it doesn’t matter if I have to give up food for a while later on, for now, let’s have fun.
I experience being deaf differently here. First thing, the language, that is, Italian, which is my language, is very easy for me to understand lip-reading. Something much more difficult with French or English, then.
Another thing is that I move in an environment I know, that is familiar to me, I know how things work.
However, I have to say that I’m adapting and adjusting very well to this hostile country, which, in some ways, is much more practical and easier to follow.
Also because I believe that many things in Italy are “office complications for simple things,” for example, the disability card.
But having said that, I don’t care about the disability card. I can do without it… I can’t do anything about it. I have adapted to working as a deaf person, I have adapted to a new city, but I still have to adapt to a new me. Unfortunately, I always think that there are things I could do calmly, I sometimes forget that I’m deaf. Then something always reminds me. Most of the time because people talk to me and I can’t understand all the words.
Ah… but when you’re home, nothing else matters.
